Frequently Asked Questions

Can you install a tubliner over my 1 piece fiberglass tub?

No. 1 piece tub/shower units can not be lined due to the countless molds manufacturers have used. However, we can refinish your existing tub even if there is damage to it or we can tear it out and install a replacement tub with one of our acrylic surrounds.

Can you install a tubliner over just my tub and not the tile walls around it?

Tubliners can be installed over just the tub but we do not advise it. By doing this even the best of installations is very susceptible to water penetrating the seal around the tub and allowing water to the trapped between the original tub and tubliner. For this reason most companies that offer this will only do so with a very limited warranty or none at all. We advise refinishing the tub in these instances.

I've heard that you can't use a tub for 3 or 4 days after refinishing while it cures.

This is not true. Our refinishing products and those of any reputable refinisher are ready to be put back into service after 24 hours, the same as tubliner installations. Any product that takes longer to dry is a do it yourself hardware store remedy that is an epoxy coating. These products have very poor chemical resistance to normal cleaners and inferior adhesion. Think of if this way- would you expect a can of spray paint to hold up as well on the hood of your car as you would a professional paint job from an auto body shop?

I would like to refinish but I have tile that is outdated as well and it goes all the way around my bathroom. What can you do for that?

Tile can be refinished the same as your tub including all the way around the bathroom. All caulking is replaced with a paintable adhesive caulk so you have a seamless coating and best of all the porous grout is covered as well making it a breeze to keep clean. No more staining!

Why would we choose you over a national franchise? They will have to honor my warranty even if the local franchise goes out of business.

Simply put, national franchises simply help individuals jump start their business with limited time invested in on the job experience. They do this by backing them with their name and slick ad campaigns for an upfront fee and ongoing cut of the profits. These types of companies are rarely owner operated and work is carried out by sub-contractors. As a consumer you are not guaranteed that the national franchise will honor your warranty should the local franchise fail. Franchises are sold a name and hold themselves in no way responsible for one of their franchises failing. In contrast as an independent owner operator, yes I'm still in the field every day. I can tell you in no uncertain terms the healthy sustained growth Tubs R' Us has had over the last 15 years learning, developing, and innovating has left our company and our customers with a far superior product that we will be here to warranty. We are your neighbors.

Care and Maintenance

The following cleaning instructions have been compiled for proper hassle-free maintenance of your newly refinished bathtub or your new acrylic liner.

General Cleaning Instructions:

For normal everyday cleaning, we suggest the use of a mild soap and water with a soft washcloth. Use of scouring pads or abrasive cleaners will dull the surface. Should you wish to use a product not listed below, test on a small area in the corner of the skirt before applying to the entire bathtub. Always review individual cleaners' instructions before use. Always rinse thoroughly after cleaning.

Recommended Cleaners:

Scrub Free for Soap Scum or Scrub Free for Mildew is our #1 recommended cleaner! It is available at many grocery and retail stores. Vinegar and water may also be used to soften water minerals. If you require a disinfectant, you may use Clorox Bleach diluted with water to sanitize.

DO NOT USE:

Original Clean Shower, Clean Shower for plastic Showers and Glass, Soft Scrub, Dow disinfectant cleaner with or without Scrubbing Bubbles, Lysol disinfectant cleaner, acetone, Lestoil, ammonia, fingernail polish remover, aerosol cleaners or scouring pads. *Use of these chemicals will cause a dull surface and/or an easily recognizable chemical crack. This will void your product warranty. There is no need to use abrasive cleaners. Abrasive cleaners dull the gloss over a period of years. In extreme cases where the recommended cleaners do not work, use a Chore Boy or a 3M Sponge pad. Make sure you use the ones recommended for Teflon Surfaces.

Drain Cleaner:

Caution: liquid drain cleaners are recommended over powders and/ or crystal; however, when using liquid drain cleaning agents, bail the standing water outr of the baththub and remove the drain plug. Use a funnel to prevent spills and apply the chemicals directly down the drain. Always make certain that chemicals do not come in contact with the bathtub surface. Use drain cleaners sparingly, so that they do not boil out and attack the bathtub surface. Removing light scratches, abrasions, etc.: Should you accidentally use an abrasive cleaner or incur a minor scratch in you bathtub, it may be restored to its original glossy finish. You can do this by using a liquid acrylic car wax; we have had great success with a car wax called Nu-Finish. It comes in an orange bottle and is available at most automotive stores. Should you wish to use any other polishing waxes or compounds, be sure to test in a corner area of the skirt that is not highly visible.

Please note: when using a wax to clean and restore a bathtub that has been poorly maintained, wax will generally leave a slick surface. While this is very beneficial and recommended for walls, it is not recommended on any slip resistant bottom. ***Should you have any more questions, feel free to contact us.
